Meet our Lead Product Manager, Kevin Luo

Tell us a bit about yourself

I grew up in the USA but have always been interested in living abroad and exploring other countries. I moved to London towards the end of 2019 with the intent of expanding my career internationally and challenging myself to learn and think more globally.

I am passionate about identifying and understanding core customer problems and collaborating with the team to solve these pain points. Prior to Beacon, I worked at other scaling startups, establishing product frameworks and launching impactful features which helped lead two companies to successful exits. Most recently, I led a team within Growth at Revolut, a challenger bank now with 12+ million customers.

What do you do at Beacon?

As a Lead Product Manager at Beacon, I am focused on building the best supply chain finance product for our customers.

One major challenge faced by importers is the mismatch of their cash flow: they pay suppliers when placing an order, but the goods they ordered do not arrive and get sold until months later. This cash flow risk is significant, and we believe we can help solve it by providing flexible capital for importers to pay their suppliers, so that they can better align when they need to pay suppliers with when they receive cash inflow from sales.

On a day-to-day basis, I work closely with our superb engineering and design teams to design, test, and ultimately build the optimal supply chain finance experience for our customers. Simply building and releasing a product is not enough – our teams are committed to delivering measurable results for our customers and we’ve set ambitious targets. Having the right minds on this complex problem is crucial to our success, so we are also constantly thinking about how we can build out the best team (if this interests you, please reach out!).

Why Beacon?

I joined Beacon because I wanted to be part of the team that disrupts the trillion dollar global freight and logistics industry. Our vision at Beacon is to provide a one-stop shop for all supply chain needs so that our customers can stop worrying about their supply chain issues and focus on the most important aspect of their businesses – delivering and providing for their customers.

Another reason is our ability to improve the environmental sustainability of global supply chains. The international shipping industry is notorious for being a major contributor to climate change, releasing almost a billion tonnes of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere every year. At Beacon, we have an opportunity to identify and optimise shipping routes, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of our customers.

Lastly, and most importantly, I love that Beacon is so focused on hiring the right people and building a truly collaborative work culture. Beacon is committed to attracting global talent from diverse backgrounds, and we offer visa sponsorship for non-UK citizens. I am thrilled to be part of the team!
