FCL Freight

What is FCL Freight?

FCL (Full Container Load) freight refers to the transportation of cargo that fills an entire shipping container, dedicated to a single shipper. Unlike LCL (Less than Container Load), where multiple shippers share space, FCL freight allows one customer to use the full capacity of a container, regardless of whether it’s fully loaded or not. This method is preferred for large-volume shipments as it offers faster transit times, reduced handling, and better control over the shipping process.

How do FCL Freight Rates Compare to LCL?

FCL is generally more cost-effective per unit of cargo when shipping larger volumes, as shippers pay a flat rate for the entire container. In contrast, LCL freight is priced based on the volume or weight of the cargo, which makes it more economical for smaller shipments. However, when shipments approach the capacity of a container, FCL can offer better value since there’s no need to share space, and the goods are handled less frequently, reducing the risk of damage or delays.
