Feedermax Ship

What is a Feedermax Container Ship?

A Feedermax container ship is a small to medium-sized feeder vessel used to transport containers between regional ports and larger, deep-water ports where larger container ships (such as Panamax or Neopanamax vessels) dock. These ships play a vital role in the global shipping network by “feeding” containers to and from major ports, enabling more efficient cargo distribution. Feedermax vessels are essential for connecting smaller markets with global trade routes.

Feedermax Container Ship Size

Feedermax container ships typically range in size from 1,000 to 3,000 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). They are smaller than standard container ships, making them ideal for navigating shallow waters and smaller ports that cannot accommodate larger vessels. These ships usually measure around 150-200 meters in length and have a beam (width) of 25-32 meters, allowing them to access regional and smaller trade hubs.
